I’m a feminist. Yup, I said it and I strongly believe you should be one too. The definition of feminism is far from the stigma of being an angry “man-hater” who wants special privilege. Actually, it’s the exact opposite. At its core, feminism is a movement based on the belief that all people — no matter their gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc.—are equal, and deserve to live their lives free from discrimination. That’s it! See, don’t you agree now?
When Vera Bradley launched their “It’s Good to be a Girl” campaign, I was so excited to be a part of it. You know that I love VB so in a time when being a woman has so many challenges, it’s nice to celebrate the good.
Here are my top 3 reasons why it’s good to be a girl:
One.// Because the friendship between girls is unlike anything else. My friends are like my sisters and there is no limit on what I can share with them. They are my biggest cheerleaders, advocates, and champions.
Two.// The lessons learned from my mom have shaped the girl I have become. I am successful not because I am pretty or popular, it’s because I am kind, brave, and strong. These are the values that were instilled in me by an incredibly powerful woman and these are what I will pass down as a mom.
Three.// We are constantly the underdogs, but that gives us so much power. Strive to be smarter, work harder, and dream bigger than what anyone ever expected of you.
