A Day In The Life of a Part-Time Blogger With a Full-Time Job

As a blogger who has chosen to keep my “day job”, my schedule is nothing but simple. As a wife, puppy-mom, tech professional, and of course blogger – I am constantly multitasking and trying to cross as many things off my list as possible in a day.

Every so often I run into someone who says, “How do you do it all?!” Little do they know, that none of us are holding it all together. I just do the best that I can today, then go to bed and do it all again tomorrow – just a little bit better. But you can always get help! I arm myself with the best tools in the business to keep my professional and my side hustle afloat.

7:30 AM –  Wake up & kiss my husband good morning, brush my teeth, wash my face, and let my puppy, Theo, out into my backyard and run around with him a little.

7:45 – 8:00 AM – I pull out my phone to respond to social media & blog comments and put tea on the kettle for my morning chai.

8:00 – 8:10 AM Get in the shower and I listen to the 2000’s R&B Apple Music playlist on my phone. Usually only takes 5-10 minutes because I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week, and that’s at night.

8:10 – 8:35 AM –  After that I go into my cloffice (closet + office) to get dressed. Every morning when I do my hair & makeup I play one episode of my favorite sitcom: Friends, HIMYM, Mindy, etc and that’s a 22 minute timer to do my hair, makeup, and get dressed.

8:45 – 9:15 AM My morning commute consists of listening the The New York Time’s Podcast “The Daily” which is usually just the right amount of time for my drive in.

9:15 – 5:30 PM  Kick ass at my day job as a Product Manager at Turner Entertainment specializing in User Experience. I try really hard to stay focused during the day and try not to take work home with me (although it doesn’t always work out)

Note: My lunch break consists of answering blog emails, hoping on conference calls or having a midday workout – see my top tips for working out during lunch here

5:30 – 6:00 PM – Afternoon commute consists of listening to my favorite business podcast. I alternate between “FohrCast, The Influencer Podcast, and The GoalDigger Podcast”.

6:00 – 6:30 PM Take my dog Theo for a quick walk and give him dinner. I usually check in on Instagram and respond to some DMs while decompressing on the couch.

6:30 – 7:00 PM Try to start editing photos and getting the next blog post ready, usually unsuccessfully. By this time, I’ve usually fallen down a Reddit rabbit role about who Mindy Kaling’s baby daddy could be.

7:00 – 9:00 PM – Hang out with my husband. By that, I mean that we work out together. So two or three weekdays per week, we go to a spin, HIIT, or a Megareformer class.

9:30 PM – 10:30 PM – Make dinner & clean up the kitchen – usually some type of grilled chicken & salad. If I have a big deadline, we will pick up Chipotle so that I can get home and get to work sooner.

10:30 PM – 10:45 PM – Shower after class! These workouts are no joke!

10:45 PM – 11:00 PM – Post an Instagram photo! It seems simple, but I usually use about 3-4 apps before posting the actual photo. Between editing, curating my feed, and linking to content – so that when my photo posts, you guys can shop the look. The entire process it takes a while!

11:00 PM – 1:00 AM – Write copy for tomorrow’s blog post, respond to blog emails, prepare the post with SEO tags, categories, spelling/grammar check, linking to items in the post, updating my editorial calendar, scheduling posts on Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest. Check in with my intern & answer any of her questions. To be honest, I usually get to the part where I just hit post and trust that a friend, family member, or super cool reader will message me and let me know if I have a typo in the morning. Or just choke it up to being colloquial and cool.

Some days are more exhausting then others, but I’m doing my best to do less content – but more content of value. Working smarter vs. harder has certainly been a challenge for me and I’m continuing to find the right mix for me.
